Salesforce and ERP integration guide

How to Integrate Salesforce with an ERP System

Salesforce and ERP integration works best when it connects a defined customer or operational journey. Start with the business event, then decide which data should move, which system owns it, and what users need to know when processing is delayed or fails.

Guide · 01

Choose the business workflows first

Common scenarios include account synchronization, product and price context, quote or order handoff, order status, invoices, payments, and fulfillment updates. Not every organization needs every flow, and a field-level sync does not by itself define the user process.

Map who creates and approves the record, when it is valid to send, which system confirms it, and how exceptions return to users.

Guide · 02

Define data ownership and matching

Decide which system is authoritative for accounts, contacts, products, prices, orders, invoices, payments, and inventory. Choose stable identifiers and matching rules, and document field-level ownership and conflict resolution.

Avoid uncontrolled two-way updates that can create loops or overwrite approved data. Include duplicate prevention, partial update handling, and reconciliation in the design.

Guide · 03

Select the integration approach

Assess supported APIs, middleware, events, scheduled exchanges, volumes, latency, security, licensing, and operational support. Use synchronous requests when users need an immediate decision; asynchronous or batch patterns may be more resilient for longer-running workflows.

Protect credentials, scope permissions, monitor failures, and plan retries and replay. Test invalid data, service outages, duplicate events, and expired credentials alongside successful transactions.

Guide · 04

Release and operate

Validate end-to-end scenarios with business, finance, operations, and technical owners. Document data contracts, alerts, runbooks, support responsibility, and change procedures before production deployment.
